The HERTEL 61699641 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-volume drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and general industrial applications. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it holds up under moderate heat and friction common in production environments. The bit is sized at No. 26 wire gauge, equivalent to 0.1470 inches in diameter, with a standard 118-degree split-less point that delivers reliable center-starting on flat and curved surfaces. Overall length is 2-1/16 inches, making it shorter and more rigid than jobber-length bits. This rigidity reduces deflection and is well suited to drill press and screw machine work where depth control matters. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die techs, and maintenance mechanics are the primary installers.
This bit is intended for general-purpose drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and soft materials at production drilling stations or CNC screw machines. The shorter flute length of 1 inch limits chip evacuation depth but increases stiffness, which is an advantage in tight fixture setups and close-tolerance hole patterns. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. The 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio is consistent with screw machine tooling conventions and ANSI specification designation.
Designed as an ANSI-standard screw machine length drill bit suitable for use in drill presses, CNC screw machines, and hand-held drill chucks accepting straight-cylindrical shanks in the No. 26 wire size range.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance mechanics familiar with rotating cutting tools. Ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely fixtured before operation. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing bits. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material and bit diameter.
