The HERTEL 61698866 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel drilling in general-purpose machining applications. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this bit is sized to No. 3 wire gauge, which corresponds to 0.2130 inches in decimal. The 118-degree standard point angle suits a wide range of materials including mild steel, aluminum, and plastics. At 2.375 inches overall length, the stub-style format reduces deflection and improves rigidity compared to jobber-length bits. With two spiral flutes and a straight cylindrical shank, it fits standard drill chucks and CNC toolholders without modification.
Screw machine length bits are standard equipment in production machining, metal fabrication shops, and assembly operations where short, rigid tooling is preferred. The No. 3 wire size is commonly used when drilling clearance holes, pilot holes, and tap-prep holes in light-gauge steel, aluminum, and thermoplastics. Right-hand cutting direction is consistent with conventional drill press and CNC spindle rotation. The 1.25-inch flute length accommodates shallow-to-moderate depth drilling typical in screw machine and turret lathe work. Each package contains one bit, with a minimum order quantity of 12 pieces.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit compatible with any drill press, CNC machining center, turret lathe, or hand drill equipped with a chuck that accepts a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.2130-inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists or qualified trade personnel familiar with drilling operations and machine safety procedures. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before beginning a cut. Always power down and de-energize the machine before changing tooling. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate selection based on workpiece material.
