The HERTEL 61698445 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-volume drilling in metal, wood, and plastic. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, it delivers reliable performance in general-purpose production and maintenance applications. The 39/64-inch diameter (0.6094 inches decimal) and 118-degree standard point angle make it well suited for starting on flat or curved surfaces without center punching. The shorter-than-jobber overall length of 4.25 inches provides added rigidity, reducing deflection in drill press and CNC machine applications. Two spiral flutes with a 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio evacuate chips efficiently during continuous cuts.
This bit fits drill press, lathe, and CNC machining center applications where screw machine length rigidity is preferred over standard jobber length. The right-hand cut and straight cylindrical shank allow direct chucking in conventional three-jaw drill chucks and collet-style tool holders. It is suited for job shops, maintenance technicians, and production machinists working in general-purpose metal fabrication environments. The 2.75-inch flute length accommodates typical through-hole depths in the 39/64-inch diameter range without requiring peck drilling cycles on most workpiece thicknesses.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or production-supply screw machine drill bit for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and lathes accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 39/64-inch diameter range. Conforms to ANSI specification designation.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with rotating cutting tools. Always ensure the drill chuck or collet is fully tightened and the workpiece is securely clamped before initiating a cut. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if edge integrity is compromised. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve hole finish.
