The HERTEL 44838472 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for high-material-removal-rate milling operations in ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiCN coating, this tool delivers improved hardness and wear resistance compared to standard HSS end mills. The 3/4 inch diameter, 4-flute, fine-pitch geometry generates a fine surface finish by breaking chips into smaller segments, reducing vibration and heat buildup during aggressive cuts. Licensed machinists and toolroom professionals use this tool for roughing passes where maximizing stock removal per pass is the priority.
This end mill suits vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual milling machines handling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpieces. The 2.5 inch length of cut accommodates deeper pocketing and slotting operations without requiring extended-reach tooling. The 3/4 inch straight shank fits standard ER, R8, and straight-bore tool holders commonly found in production and job-shop environments. It is a single-end tool, so the full cutting life is concentrated at one end.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct tooling option for standard 3/4 inch straight-shank tool holders used in vertical mills, knee mills, and CNC machining centers requiring a single-end cobalt roughing end mill with a 3/4 inch shank diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Verify that the tool holder bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank; use the specified drawbar torque or collet tightening procedure for the holder type in use. Because this is a non-center-cutting end mill, do not plunge directly into solid material — use a pre-drilled hole or a programmed ramp entry to begin the cut.
