The HERTEL 42329 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for drilling into stainless steel, hardened materials, and other tough ferrous alloys that standard high-speed steel bits cannot handle efficiently. Built from M35 cobalt steel, this bit generates a 13.00 mm (0.5118 inch) diameter hole with a 135-degree split-point tip that self-centers on contact, reducing the need for a center punch and minimizing walking on hard surfaces. The overall length is 151.00 mm (5.94 inches) with a 101.00 mm (3.98 inch) flute length, giving it the reach and chip-clearing capacity expected of a heavy-duty jobber drill. The bright oxide finish helps with heat dissipation during extended cuts.
This bit is suited for metalworking, fabrication, maintenance, and repair applications where the workpiece material demands a cobalt-grade tool. Typical use cases include drilling stainless steel plate and tubing, hardened fastener removal, and production drilling in manufacturing environments. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw drill chucks on benchtop drill presses, magnetic drills, and handheld power drills. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for all conventional drilling operations. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio provides good chip evacuation in deep-hole applications.
Designed as a heavy-duty OEM-style jobber drill for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting 13.00 mm straight-shank tooling; compatible with drill presses, magnetic drills, and handheld power drills across the 12.50 mm to 15.00 mm drill bit size range category.
Install the straight cylindrical shank fully into a properly sized drill chuck and tighten securely before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or hardened materials to extend tool life and prevent work hardening at the cut surface. Verify spindle speed is set to the recommended RPM for the workpiece material and bit diameter before beginning the cut. Always wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling.
