The HERTEL 42193 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for drilling into tough ferrous metals and hard alloys. At 17/64 inch (0.2656 inches) in diameter, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and allows for faster penetration without a center punch. The M35 cobalt steel construction and oxide straw finish give the bit superior heat resistance compared to standard high-speed steel. At 2.6250 inches overall length, the stub-length body provides added rigidity, making it well suited for production drilling and close-tolerance work on lathes, drill presses, and milling machines.
This bit is intended for professional machinists and maintenance tradespeople working with hardened materials, heat-treatable alloyed steels, stainless steel, and titanium alloys. Its 3xD flute-to-diameter ratio and 1.4375-inch spiral flute length promote efficient chip evacuation in short-hole drilling applications. It is sold individually and fits standard drill chucks accepting fractional 17/64 inch shanks.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use drill bit for any standard drill chuck accepting a 17/64 inch fractional shank in screw machine length format.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with metal-cutting practices. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and ensure the chuck is tightened to the bit shank fully to prevent slippage. When drilling stainless steel or titanium alloys, use a cutting fluid appropriate for those materials to extend bit life. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or heat discoloration beyond the straw finish is observed.
