The HERTEL 42169 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built from M35 cobalt steel with a bright uncoated finish, it delivers heat resistance and edge retention that standard high-speed steel bits cannot match. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows drilling to begin without a center punch on most materials. At 6 inches overall length with a 4.5-inch flute length, this bit handles standard jobber-depth applications in metal fabrication, maintenance, and industrial service work. It is well suited for licensed tradespeople and experienced machinists working with harder steels, stainless, and cast materials.
This drill bit is used in metal drilling applications across commercial and industrial settings, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical rough-in work where drilling through structural steel, angle iron, or hard sheet metal is required. The 1/2-inch diameter and straight cylindrical shank allow it to seat in standard three-jaw keyed or keyless drill chucks without adapters. The right-hand spiral flute geometry provides efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit compatible with any 1/2-inch or larger keyed or keyless drill chuck accepting a straight cylindrical shank, including portable drills, drill presses, and milling machines used in trade and industrial applications.
This bit should be installed and operated by qualified tradespeople familiar with metal drilling practices. Secure the workpiece and ensure the chuck is fully tightened before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to prolong edge life and reduce heat buildup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear before each use and replace when the split point shows signs of dulling or chipping.
