The HERTEL 42136 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for cutting tough materials in production and maintenance environments. Built from M35 cobalt high-speed steel, it carries a 135-degree split point that self-centers on contact and reduces the thrust needed to start a hole. The bit runs right-hand cutting with a regular spiral flute and measures 13/64 inch (0.2031 inch) in diameter. Overall length is 3.625 inches with a 2.4375-inch flute length. A straight cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw chucks without an adapter. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die tradespeople, and maintenance mechanics are the typical end users.
This bit is rated for stainless steel and hardened materials where standard HSS bits lose their edge quickly. The cobalt matrix retains hardness at elevated cutting temperatures, making it suitable for interrupted cuts, hand-held drill use in tight quarters, and fixed-spindle work at moderate speeds. The heavy-duty grade designation indicates suitability for demanding production cycles rather than occasional light-duty use. It carries an oxide finish and ships individually.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement drill bit for applications requiring a 13/64-inch diameter hole in stainless steel or hardened materials. Fits any standard three-jaw chuck accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch diameter range.
Installation of this bit is performed by machinists or maintenance mechanics using a standard drill press, milling machine, or handheld power drill with a three-jaw chuck. Secure the shank fully in the chuck before applying power and verify runout before cutting into hardened stock. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel to extend bit life and reduce work hardening at the cut face. Disconnect power to the machine and lock out energy sources before changing bits per applicable OSHA lockout-tagout procedures.
