The HERTEL 42118 is a cobalt jobber length drill bit designed for drilling in tough ferrous and non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and high-alloy materials. Built from M35 cobalt steel and finished with an oxide and gold coating, it delivers extended tool life and improved heat resistance under sustained cutting loads. The bit measures 16.5 mm (0.6496 inches) in diameter with an overall length of 7.2441 inches (184 mm) and a flute length of 4.9213 inches (125 mm). A 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch and reduces walking on hard surfaces. This is a standard-stock industrial bit used by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and metalworking tradespeople.
The HERTEL 42118 suits production drilling and maintenance applications across manufacturing, fabrication shops, and industrial maintenance environments. Its straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks in benchtop drill presses, magnetic drills, and handheld power tools. The 2-flute regular spiral geometry provides efficient chip evacuation during deep hole drilling. It is sized in the 15 mm and above range, making it appropriate for larger clearance holes, bolt holes, and stepped bore operations in structural steel and heavy plate.
Designed as a standard jobber length drill bit with a straight cylindrical shank for use in any drill press, magnetic base drill, or power drill with a compatible chuck capacity for 16.5 mm diameter tooling.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance mechanics familiar with metalworking equipment. Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck and verify runout before starting a cut. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant on hard alloys and stainless steel to manage heat buildup, noting that this bit does not support internal coolant through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace when point geometry degrades to avoid workpiece damage.
