The HERTEL 42054 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials including stainless steel, hardened alloys, and other hard metals commonly encountered in mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades. Built from cobalt steel with an oxide and gold coating, this bit delivers improved heat resistance and extended tool life compared to standard high-speed steel options. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on contact and requires less feed pressure at startup. At 7.125 inches overall length with a 5.1875-inch flute length, it suits standard jobber-length applications across a wide range of power drills and drill presses.
This bit is suited for professional tradespeople drilling through ferrous metals, stainless fastener plates, structural steel, and similar hard substrates on job sites and in fabrication settings. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw chucks without adapters. The 5/8-inch diameter size is commonly used for anchor bolt clearance holes, conduit knockouts, and mechanical fastener bores in both residential and light commercial construction work. Two spiral flutes with a regular spiral type provide efficient chip evacuation during drilling operations.
Designed as a jobber-length replacement drill bit suitable for use in standard power drills, drill presses, and magnetic base drills accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.5000 to 0.6500 decimal inch drill bit size range.
Installation of this drill bit should be performed by qualified tradespeople familiar with rotary cutting tools and machine safety. Secure the shank firmly in a properly sized three-jaw chuck and verify runout before beginning a cut. Always wear appropriate eye protection and ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixed before drilling. Do not exceed the drill press or tool manufacturer recommended speeds for the material being drilled.
