The HERTEL 42022 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for drilling into hard and abrasive materials including stainless steel, hardened alloys, and cast iron. The 7/16-inch diameter bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and requires no center punch in most applications. An oxide and gold coating adds surface hardness and helps shed heat during cutting. With a straight cylindrical shank and right-hand spiral flute, this bit is compatible with standard drill chucks in corded and cordless tools. It is sold individually and is suited for fabrication shops, maintenance trades, and mechanical contractors.
This drill bit is applied in metal fabrication, HVAC sheet metal work, plumbing rough-in, electrical panel work, and general mechanical maintenance where hard or high-tensile metals are encountered. The 5-1/2-inch overall length provides adequate reach for most standard drilling applications. The regular spiral and 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio support efficient chip evacuation in both light and moderate feed-rate conditions. It is appropriate for use in drill presses or hand-held power drills where consistent speed and feed control can be maintained.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit with a straight cylindrical shank, suitable for use in drill presses and hand-held power drill chucks accepting 7/16-inch round shanks.
This bit is installed and replaced by machinists, fabricators, HVAC technicians, plumbers, and electricians working with metal substrates. Secure the shank fully in a keyed or keyless chuck before operation and verify chuck tightness. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to prolong bit life and manage heat buildup. Allow the bit to cool before handling after extended use, and never force-feed through hard material as this can cause tip fracture.
