The HERTEL 4140083 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit designed for heavy-duty holemaking in hard and abrasive materials. It carries a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) coating that extends tool life by resisting heat buildup at high cutting speeds. The split-point, 135-degree tip geometry reduces walking on entry and requires no center punch on most work surfaces. With an overall length of 3.375 inches and a flute length of 2.1875 inches, this bit fits standard drill chucks and right-angle drilling attachments. It is suited for machinists, pipefitters, ironworkers, and fabricators working with stainless steel, hardened alloys, and similar difficult-to-drill materials.
Wire size 14 corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.1820 inches, placing it in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch size range. This bit is used in production drilling, maintenance and repair operations, and structural fabrication where standard HSS bits wear prematurely. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in keyed or keyless drill chucks without an adapter. The regular spiral and tapered web configuration promote consistent chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole drilling.
Designed as an OEM-style jobber drill bit replacement for applications requiring a wire size 14 (0.1820 inch) straight-shank cobalt bit in standard keyed or keyless drill chucks.
Installation is performed by machinists, pipefitters, fabricators, and maintenance technicians using standard drill presses, magnetic drills, or hand-held power drills. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck before operation and confirm the cutting direction is set to right-hand (clockwise). Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling stainless steel or hardened alloys to manage heat, even though this bit does not support through-coolant. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if the TiAlN coating shows significant wear or the split point is damaged.
