The HERTEL 41120759 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiCN, this tool handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials with improved wear resistance and heat tolerance. It carries a 5/8-inch mill diameter with four right-hand flutes in a fine-pitch configuration, delivering a balance of chip evacuation and cutting edge strength. The 1.625-inch length of cut and 3.75-inch overall length make it a regular-length tool suited to general-purpose milling setups. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this type of end mill when productivity matters and surface finish is secondary to stock removal rate.
This roughing end mill is used in vertical and horizontal milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills. Fine-pitch roughing geometry breaks chips into smaller segments, reducing cutting forces and heat buildup compared to standard finishing end mills. The 5/8-inch shank diameter matches directly to standard 5/8-inch collets, end mill holders, and Weldon-style tool holders common in production and job-shop environments. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction make this a conventional, widely compatible geometry. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry where fixturing permits. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and roughing passes on steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials.
Designed as a standard 5/8-inch shank roughing end mill compatible with 5/8-inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style side-lock holders used on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the spindle fully stopped and locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the holder bore and shank are clean and free of chips or burrs before seating the tool. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping to avoid premature edge wear. Follow machine manufacturer torque specifications for drawbar and set-screw tightening — do not use impact tools on fine-thread drawbars.
