The HERTEL 4006190 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable-insert drill bodies in metal-cutting machining operations. The insert carries the HPMT style geometry with a GP chipbreaker and an 80-degree diamond shape, making it well suited for drilling applications that demand consistent chip control and stable cutting performance. It is PVD-coated with a TiAlN and AlCrN dual-layer finish, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during high-speed or dry drilling. The inscribed circle measures 18 millimeters (0.7087 inches), the thickness is 0.2677 inches, and the corner radius is 1.2 millimeters (0.0472 inches). Installation and tooling setup is typically performed by machinists or tool-crib technicians in job-shop, production, or maintenance machining environments.
This insert is intended for indexable drill bodies that accept HPMT-style inserts. It is appropriate for drilling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where PVD-coated carbide grades are specified. The neutral cutting direction suits a broad range of standard drill body orientations. The GP chipbreaker geometry is designed to manage chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole drilling scenarios on CNC machining centers and drill presses.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard insert for indexable drill bodies that accept HPMT-style solid carbide inserts with an 18 mm inscribed circle and size designation 186812.
Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a powered-down, locked-out state per LOTO procedures. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the insert securely against the pocket without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can affect runout and insert life. Refer to the drill body manufacturer documentation for correct insert orientation and torque procedure.
