The HERTEL 4006167 is a straight-shank indexable insert drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in metal cutting applications. It accepts two HPMT125812-GP inserts and delivers a maximum drill depth of 6.5 inches at a 4xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The drill diameter measures 1.625 inches (41.28 mm), with a maximum drill diameter of 1.674 inches. The 1.5-inch straight cylindrical shank and steel body construction make this tool compatible with standard drill chucks and hydraulic or shrink-fit toolholders. Coolant-through capability is supported via a 1/4-inch shank-end coolant hole thread, making it suitable for high-speed production environments where chip evacuation and tool life matter.
This indexable insert drill is intended for machinists and tool-and-die professionals working in job shop, production machining, or manufacturing environments. It is suited for drilling into steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials where repeatable hole quality and insert replaceability reduce downtime. The right-hand cutting direction and straight shank configuration make it a practical fit for vertical machining centers, horizontal mills, and drill presses equipped with appropriate toolholding. The 4xD ratio allows deep-hole drilling in a single pass without the need for peck cycling in many setups.
Designed for use with HPMT125812-GP indexable inserts. Compatible drill style is HID. Fits standard straight-shank toolholders and drill chucks rated for a 1.5-inch shank diameter on CNC machining centers, mills, and drill presses.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before mounting or changing inserts. Verify toolholder runout and clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer specifications before cutting. Confirm coolant supply is connected and flowing before engaging the drill in the workpiece to prevent premature insert wear and thermal damage.
