The HERTEL 4006166 is a straight-shank indexable insert drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in metal cutting applications. The drill accepts two HPMT125812-GP indexable inserts and carries a 1-1/2 inch diameter with a maximum drill depth of 6 inches, representing a 4xD depth-to-diameter ratio. Coolant-through capability is built in via a 1/4 inch shank-end coolant hole thread, supporting chip evacuation and tool life in demanding cuts. The body is constructed from steel and weighs 4.2 pounds. Right-hand cutting direction is standard. This tool is used by machinists and metalworking shops running CNC or manual boring mills, machining centers, and turning centers that require reliable insert-based drilling at larger diameters.
The 4006166 is suited for production drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where indexable tooling reduces downtime compared to regrindable solid drills. The straight cylindrical shank at 1-1/2 inches diameter fits standard toolholders and chucks configured for that bore size. Flute length measures 6.197 inches, and the shank length is 3 inches. The collar diameter is 1.949 inches. This drill is appropriate for job shops, tier suppliers, and production machining environments where repeatable hole geometry and fast insert changeover are priorities.
Designed for use with HPMT125812-GP indexable inserts. Fits toolholders and chucks accepting a 1-1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank. Compatible drill style is HID.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and locked out before tool changes. Confirm the toolholder bore matches the 1-1/2 inch shank diameter and that the holder is torqued to the machine-tool manufacturer's specification. Connect coolant-through supply at the shank-end 1/4 inch threaded port before running the tool at programmed feeds and speeds. Inspect both insert seats and seating surfaces before indexing or replacing inserts to prevent runout.
