The HERTEL 4006165 is a steel-body indexable insert drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in metal cutting applications. Built to the 4xD depth-to-diameter ratio, it drills to a maximum depth of 5.5 inches at a cutting diameter of 1.375 inches (1-3/8 inches nominal). The drill accepts two indexable inserts compatible with the HPMT094508-GP insert designation, allowing seat replacement without scrapping the body. A straight-cylindrical shank of 1.5 inches diameter provides positive clamping in standard drill chucks or hydraulic toolholders. Coolant-through capability via a 1/4-inch threaded shank-end port supports chip evacuation and tool life in deep-hole operations. Right-hand cutting direction. Weight is 3.7 pounds.
This indexable insert drill is suited for production machining environments where consistent hole diameter and depth repeatability are required. Typical applications include roughing and semi-finishing bores in steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials on CNC machining centers, lathes with driven tooling, or dedicated drilling machines. The 4xD ratio positions this tool for through-holes and blind holes in the 5 to 7-inch maximum depth range. It is installed and set up by machinists, toolroom technicians, or CNC setup personnel.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Confirm the toolholder bore matches the 1.5-inch straight-cylindrical shank before mounting, and verify clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts or seating the tool body. Ensure coolant supply pressure is compatible with the machine spindle's through-coolant system before engaging the coolant-through port.
