The HERTEL 4006162 is a straight-shank indexable insert drill engineered for high-productivity hole-making in metal cutting applications. Designed around a 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio, it drills to a maximum depth of 4.5 inches with a nominal bore diameter of 1.5 inches. The steel body accepts two indexable inserts compatible with HPMT125812-GP grade inserts, allowing fast edge replacement without removing the drill from the spindle. Right-hand cutting geometry and through-coolant capability via a 1/4-inch shank-end coolant port make this drill well-suited for CNC machining centers running high-volume production cycles.
This drill is intended for use in CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers where repeatable, close-tolerance holes in the 1.5-inch range are required. Its straight cylindrical shank measures 1.5 inches in diameter and 3.0 inches in length, fitting standard toolholders designed for that shank size. The through-coolant feature supports extended tool life when drilling steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous workpiece materials. Machinists and tool-room technicians working in production shops, job shops, and aerospace or heavy equipment environments will find this drill appropriate for their drilling operations.
Compatible with HID drill style toolholders. Takes HPMT125812-GP indexable inserts. Straight cylindrical shank diameter of 1.5 inches fits standard 1.5-inch bore toolholders and shrink-fit or set-screw style holders of matching bore size.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the drill body from the toolholder. Verify insert seating and screw torque per the insert manufacturer guidelines before initiating a cut. Confirm coolant line connection and flow rate before running through-coolant operations to prevent thermal damage to the inserts or workpiece.
