The HERTEL 4006108 is a straight-shank indexable insert drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in metal cutting applications. Built on a steel body, this drill accepts two HPMT094508-GP inserts and produces holes with a nominal diameter of 1-5/16 inches (1.3125 inches decimal) up to a maximum drill diameter of 1.3520 inches. Maximum drill depth reaches 3-15/16 inches at a 3xD depth-to-diameter ratio. The 1-1/2 inches straight-cylindrical shank provides secure tool holding in standard drill chucks and toolholders. Coolant-through capability is supported via a 1/4 inch shank-end coolant hole thread. This tool is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC machining centers and manual boring equipment.
The 4006108 is suited for production drilling in steel, cast iron, and similar workpiece materials where a replaceable-insert design reduces tooling cost per hole compared to brazed or solid-carbide alternatives. The 3xD depth ratio makes it appropriate for through-holes and blind holes in general machining applications, including batch manufacturing, job shop work, and maintenance machining. Insert indexing allows worn cutting edges to be rotated or replaced without removing the tool body from the spindle, minimizing downtime during production runs.
Compatible insert style is HPMT094508-GP. Drill style is HID. Designed for use in toolholders accepting a 1-1/2 inches straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or indexing cutting inserts. Verify that the toolholder bore and shank diameter are matched and that the tool is clamped to the required projection length before operating. Follow the insert manufacturer torque specifications printed on insert packaging when securing insert screws, and confirm coolant line connection at the shank-end port before engaging coolant-through flow.
