The HERTEL 4006100 is a steel-body indexable insert drill designed for high-productivity hole making in metalworking applications. The drill body accepts two HPMT074006-GP inserts and features a straight cylindrical shank for straightforward setup in standard drill chucks or toolholders. The 1-inch (25.40 mm) drill diameter and 4xD depth-to-diameter ratio deliver a maximum drill depth of 4 inches (101.60 mm), covering a broad range of through-hole and blind-hole operations. At 1.6 pounds, the body is compact enough for horizontal and vertical machining center use. Coolant-through capability via a 1/4-inch shank-end coolant hole thread supports chip evacuation and tool life in continuous drilling cycles.
This indexable insert drill is suited for production machining environments where insert replacements reduce cycle time compared to regrindable tooling. Typical applications include CNC machining centers and horizontal boring mills running ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The right-hand cutting direction and straight shank make it compatible with standard ER and hydraulic toolholders used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals. The 4xD depth ratio fits common part features such as bolt holes, clearance holes, and deep counterbore prep work where a single-pass drill saves operations.
Designed for use with HPMT074006-GP indexable inserts. The 1.25-inch straight cylindrical shank fits standard ER collet chucks, hydraulic toolholders, and side-lock holders sized for that shank diameter. Verify toolholder bore and coolant-through capability before installation.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or changing inserts. Confirm toolholder bore size matches the 1.25-inch shank diameter and that the toolholder clamp torque meets the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Route coolant supply through the spindle or shank-end port and verify flow before engaging a cut to prevent chip packing and premature insert wear.
