The HERTEL 4006089 is a straight-shank indexable insert drill designed for high-efficiency hole-making in metal cutting operations. Built to a 2xD depth-to-diameter ratio, it drills to a maximum depth of 1.574 inches at a cutting diameter of 0.787 inches (19.99 mm). The steel body accepts two indexable inserts compatible with the HPMT063206-GP insert style, allowing fast insert changes without removing the tool from the spindle. Right-hand cutting geometry and through-coolant capability via a 1/4-inch shank-end coolant hole thread make this drill well-suited for production environments where chip evacuation and heat management are critical. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals specify this drill for CNC turning and machining center applications.
This indexable insert drill is used in ferrous and non-ferrous metal machining on CNC vertical machining centers, horizontal machining centers, and CNC lathes with live tooling. The straight cylindrical shank with a 1-inch diameter and a collar diameter of 1.299 inches seats securely in standard hydraulic, shrink-fit, or set-screw holders designed for that shank size. It is appropriate for both roughing and production drilling cycles where repeatability and insert indexability reduce downtime compared to solid carbide alternatives.

Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer is locked out before mounting or demounting the drill body. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the specified grip length and verify coolant port alignment when through-coolant is used. Torque all clamping hardware according to the holder manufacturer specifications, not the drill body specification.
