The HERTEL 4006080 is a straight-shank indexable insert drill designed for high-performance hole-making in metal cutting applications. Built to a 2xD depth-to-diameter ratio, it achieves a maximum drill depth of 2-3/4 inches with a nominal drill diameter of 1-3/8 inches (1.3750 inches decimal). The drill body is constructed from steel and accepts two indexable inserts compatible with the HPMT094508-GP insert style, allowing fast insert changes on the machine without re-grinding. Coolant-through capability is supported via a 1/4-inch threaded coolant hole at the shank end, helping manage heat and chip evacuation at depth. This tool is intended for use by machinists and tooling professionals in production and job-shop environments.
The 4006080 is suited for drilling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a large-diameter, short-to-medium depth hole is required. The straight cylindrical shank with a 1-1/2 inch diameter fits standard toolholders and chucks configured for that bore size. The right-hand cutting direction is compatible with conventional CNC machining center and lathe spindle rotation. The collar diameter of 2.126 inches provides a positive stop reference for toolholder setup. Typical applications include structural plate, block, and bored-hole work in manufacturing and maintenance machining contexts.
Compatible insert style is HID; takes HPMT094508-GP inserts. Designed for use in straight-bore toolholders and chucks accepting a 1-1/2 inch cylindrical shank.
Installation and setup should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the drill body or changing inserts. Verify toolholder bore size matches the 1-1/2 inch shank diameter and that the coolant-through circuit is properly connected before engaging the coolant supply. Follow the insert manufacturer torque specifications printed on the insert screw packaging when seating HPMT094508-GP inserts.
