The HERTEL 30014400 is a solid carbide circuit board drill bit designed for high-precision drilling in printed circuit board fabrication and similar close-tolerance applications. Built to wire gauge size 27, it cuts at a decimal diameter of 0.1440 inches (3.66 mm) with a 118-degree drill point angle. The fast spiral geometry and 35-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation, reducing heat buildup and improving hole quality in thin, layered materials. A bright polished finish minimizes friction along the flute. The tapered web configuration adds rigidity at the cutting tip, which matters when drilling at small diameters in dense substrates. PCB technicians, precision machinists, and electronics fabricators are the primary users.
This drill bit is suited for drilling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel in addition to circuit board work. Its compact overall length of 1.5 inches and 0.75-inch flute length make it appropriate for benchtop drill presses, CNC drilling machines, and precision hand-held setups where depth control and rigidity are priorities. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle rotation. The 3.66 mm shank diameter matches the cutting diameter, making it a straight-shank tool compatible with collets and chucks sized for that range.
Designed for use in CNC PCB drilling machines, benchtop drill presses, and precision collet chucks accepting a 3.66 mm straight shank. Suitable for material applications including cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel as stated by the manufacturer.
This bit should be installed by a qualified machinist or electronics fabrication technician familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Always secure the shank fully in a properly sized collet or chuck before operation, and verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits to prevent tip breakage at this diameter. Carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel - avoid lateral loading or side pressure during drilling. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting the bit.
