The HERTEL 2SHDNGA432610BN is a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC and manual turning equipment. Manufactured to the DNGA insert style with a 55-degree diamond shape, this uncoated insert carries the HT610BN grade designation and delivers consistent performance in hard turning, interrupted cuts, and finishing passes on hardened ferrous materials. The 1/2-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch thickness provide a robust cutting geometry suited for medium to heavy material removal. Installed by machinists and toolroom technicians, this insert seats into compatible DNGA-style toolholders using a clamp and pin holding method.
This insert is intended for use in turning applications involving hardened steels, cast irons, and similar difficult-to-machine materials where PCBN tooling is specified. The 55-degree diamond shape and 1/32-inch corner radius make it well suited for finish turning and light profiling passes requiring tight tolerances. It is commonly used in production and job-shop environments on CNC lathes and turning centers where tool life and surface finish consistency are critical. The uncoated PCBN substrate performs best at elevated cutting speeds typical of hard turning operations.
Designed for use in DNGA-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick diamond insert with clamp and pin holding. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping system compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine powered down and all axes at rest. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of debris before seating the insert. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping pin to avoid cracking the PCBN substrate — do not overtighten by hand or with impact tools. Inspect the insert seat and chip breaker geometry for compatibility with the programmed toolpath before resuming cutting operations.
