The HERTEL 2SHCNGA433630BN is a single turning insert manufactured from polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) in an uncoated finish, grade HT630BN. It carries an 80-degree diamond shape (insert shape code C) with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle and a 3/64-inch (0.0469 inch) corner radius. The insert uses a clamp-and-pin holding method and is designed for precision single-point turning operations on hardened ferrous materials, cast irons, and superalloys. Machinists and toolroom technicians install this insert into compatible CNGA-style toolholders for high-speed, interrupted, or continuous cutting where ceramic or carbide tooling falls short.
This insert is suited for finish and semi-finish turning applications where tight tolerances and superior surface finish are required. The 2SH-CNGA insert style, combined with the HT630BN PCBN grade, makes it appropriate for hard turning operations typically performed on CNC lathes in production machining environments. The uncoated PCBN substrate delivers consistent thermal stability and wear resistance at elevated cutting speeds without the delamination risk associated with coated geometries on hardened workpieces.
Designed for use in CNGA-style toolholders accepting a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick diamond insert with a 0.203-inch hole diameter. Chip breaker style A applies. Verify toolholder seat geometry and clamping system before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with indexable insert tooling systems. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten the clamp pin, as PCBN is brittle and susceptible to edge chipping from improper clamping force. Inspect the toolholder seat and clamp components for wear or debris before seating the new insert.
