The HERTEL 2SHCNGA432630BN is a polycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to grade HT630BN and left uncoated, this insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.03125-inch corner radius. It uses a clamp and pin holding method and carries a G tolerance code with N clearance, making it suitable for demanding finishing and semi-finishing operations on hardened ferrous materials. Machinists and CNC operators in production shops rely on PCBN inserts of this type for consistent tool life when cutting hardened steels and hard cast irons.
This insert is applied in turning operations where conventional carbide tooling falls short due to workpiece hardness or thermal demands. Typical applications include finish turning of hardened steel components, hard part turning in automotive and aerospace manufacturing, and semi-finish passes on hard cast iron. The 2SH-CNGA insert style fits standard CNGA-style toolholders. The uncoated PCBN substrate delivers sharp, consistent cutting edges without the adhesion variables introduced by coatings, which is preferred in certain hard-turning setups where edge sharpness and thermal conductivity of the substrate are critical.
Designed for use in standard CNGA-style insert toolholders with clamp and pin clamping systems. Insert style code is 2SH-CNGA with insert size code 432.
Installation and replacement of turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid seat damage and ensure repeatable insert positioning. Inspect the toolholder pocket and locating pin for wear or debris before seating the insert. PCBN inserts are brittle and should not be used for interrupted cuts or on non-ferrous materials unless the specific grade is rated for that application.
