The HERTEL 2387520 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-productivity metal drilling in tight-clearance applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life compared to uncoated HSS. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows the bit to self-center without a pilot hole. At 1.875 inches overall length (OAL), it is purpose-built for screw machine and short-hole drilling operations where a standard jobber-length bit would be impractical. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.1100 decimal inches in diameter, matching the bit diameter for easy chuck retention.
This bit suits drilling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and composite materials encountered in machining, fabrication, and maintenance work. The short OAL provides added rigidity, reducing deflection in CNC screw machines, turret lathes, and drill press setups where short stickout is required. The web-thinned, parallel-web configuration improves chip evacuation and lowers thrust requirements. It is a standard tool for machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance trades working with close-tolerance holes in the 0.1000 to 0.1500 inch diameter range.
Designed for use in screw machines, turret lathes, drill presses, and CNC machining centers accepting a straight-cylindrical shank bit in the 0.1000 to 0.1500 inch diameter range. Fits standard 3-jaw drill chucks and ER collet systems sized for a 0.1100-inch shank.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and confirm runout before beginning a cut. Power down and lock out the machine before changing bits. Do not exceed the recommended RPM for the bit diameter and workpiece material; refer to the machine manufacturer and HSS cutting speed charts for proper spindle speed selection.
