The HERTEL 2387363 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting applications where a shorter, stiffer body is required to reduce deflection and improve hole accuracy. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit handles a wide range of metals and general-purpose materials. The 135-degree split point geometry allows the bit to self-center on contact without a center punch, reducing walking on flat or curved surfaces. At 2.125 inches overall length with a 1.0625-inch flute length, it is well suited for close-quarters drilling and machine tool use. Licensed HVAC techs, plumbers, machinists, and general trade professionals reach for screw machine length bits when clearance is limited and rigidity matters most.
This bit fits standard drill chucks and CNC or manual drill press setups where a straight-cylindrical shank is required. With a decimal size of 0.1660 inches (wire gauge size 19), it falls in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch drill size range, making it a common choice for tapping pilot holes, sheet metal work, and precision assembly drilling in trade and light manufacturing environments. The right-hand spiral flute with web-thinned, parallel web configuration promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces thrust load during the cut.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard wire gauge size 19 screw machine length drill bits with a straight-cylindrical shank in any drill press, hand drill, or CNC setup accepting a 0.1660 inch shank diameter.
Secure the shank fully in the chuck before operating and verify chuck key is removed prior to powering the spindle. Use cutting fluid or coolant appropriate to the workpiece material to extend coating life, noting that coolant-through is not supported on this bit. Operate within the recommended surface footage for HSS tooling based on workpiece material hardness. Inspect the cutting edges before each use — a chipped or dull split point will increase thrust and reduce hole quality.
