The HERTEL 2387355 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-production drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and general industrial applications. Built from high-speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit offers improved surface hardness and extended tool life compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements, making it well suited for drilling into steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials. At 2.125 inches overall length, the stub-length body provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits, minimizing deflection in short-reach setups. This bit is sold individually and is appropriate for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills with appropriate chucks.
This screw machine length drill bit is used in production and maintenance machining environments where rigidity and accuracy matter. The 0.1695-inch diameter corresponds to wire gauge size 18, a common size for tapping prep, clearance holes, and precision hole work in light-gauge metals and plastics. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw drill chucks. It is appropriate for both job shop and field maintenance use where a compact, rigid drill bit is preferred over standard jobber-length tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard production drill bit for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held power drills accepting straight-shank tooling in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch diameter range.
This bit is installed by a machinist or qualified tool operator. Ensure the drill chuck is fully tightened and the workpiece is secured before beginning any drilling operation. Operate at appropriate surface footage for the material being drilled; consult published HSS speed-and-feed charts for the specific workpiece material. Do not use the TiN coating as a substitute for proper cutting fluid when drilling ferrous metals at sustained production rates.
