The HERTEL 2386597 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-production drilling in metal, plastic, and similar materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, it delivers reliable wear resistance in short-run and repetitive drilling operations. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces the thrust required to start a hole and minimizes walking on entry, making it well suited for tight-tolerance work. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction keeps cutting action consistent through the full flute length. At 1-11/16 inches overall length, this stub-length design provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it a go-to choice for machinists and maintenance technicians working in confined spaces or on drill press setups.
This drill bit is sized at wire gauge 52, equivalent to 0.0635 inches in diameter, placing it within the 0.0000 to 0.1000 inch decimal inch range for small-diameter drilling work. It is commonly used in machine shops, HVAC sheet metal fabrication, electrical panel work, and plumbing rough-in applications where small pilot holes or tap-drill sizes are required. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without modification. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional drill press and hand-drill operation.
Designed as a standard screw machine length drill bit for use in any drill press, CNC drill head, or hand drill with a chuck capable of accepting a 0.0635-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
This bit is installed and replaced by machinists, maintenance technicians, and trade professionals using standard drill chucks. Ensure the drill or drill press is fully powered down and the chuck is secure before beginning operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life. Do not exceed the recommended speed range for the material being drilled, as overheating will degrade the high-speed steel cutting edge.
