The HERTEL 2386340 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed metal drilling in tight-clearance applications. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit features a 135-degree split point for self-centering on entry and reduced thrust. The shortened screw machine length body — 2.0625 inches overall — makes it well-suited for drill presses, CNC turret lathes, and automatic screw machines where standard-length bits cannot be used. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole and blind-hole operations. The straight-cylindrical shank seats cleanly in standard drill chucks and collets at 0.1440 inches diameter.
This bit is sized to wire gauge 27, with a decimal diameter of 0.1440 inches, placing it in the 0.1000- to 0.1500-inch drill bit range. It is appropriate for production drilling of steel, aluminum, brass, and similar materials in both manual and CNC setups. Machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and production shop operators running screw machine work or repetitive hole patterns in metal stock will find this bit appropriate for their standard rotation. The 1-inch flute length accommodates typical depth-to-diameter ratios for this size range without requiring peck cycles on most light-to-medium stock.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or production-stock drill bit for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks, ER collet systems, and automatic screw machine tooling that accept straight-shank bits in the 0.1440-inch diameter range.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with metal-cutting drill operations. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before beginning production runs. Power down the machine and lock out energy sources before changing or inspecting bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant for the workpiece material to extend bit life and maintain hole quality.
