The HERTEL 2386282 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-volume drilling in metal, plastic, and similar materials. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide coating, it carries a wire gauge Size 21 designation, equating to 0.1590 inch decimal diameter. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows the bit to engage material without a center punch in many applications. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction keeps cutting effort low and chip evacuation efficient. At 2.125 inches overall length, the stub format provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in short-reach drilling operations. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers.
This bit is suited for screw machine and CNC lathe work, drill press operations, and hand drill use where a rigid, short-length bit is required. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without additional tooling. The right-hand spiral flute and regular spiral geometry make it appropriate for general-purpose through-hole and blind-hole drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as thermoplastics. Its compact 2.125-inch overall length is especially useful in confined fixturing setups or where minimal tool overhang is needed to maintain dimensional accuracy.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute screw machine length drill bit for use in standard drill chucks accepting a 0.1590-inch straight cylindrical shank across screw machines, CNC lathes, and drill presses.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists or qualified tradespeople familiar with cutting tool safety practices. Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck and verify runout before beginning operations. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing bits. Follow applicable shop safety standards and manufacturer guidelines for cutting speeds and feed rates appropriate to the workpiece material.
