The HERTEL 2386209 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed, close-tolerance drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and production environments. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, this bit measures 0.185 inches in diameter (wire size 13) with an overall length of 2.1875 inches. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and cutting pressure at entry, making it well suited for drilling into steel, aluminum, and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The web-thinned, parallel web construction further reduces thrust load. Right-hand spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during drilling operations. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users.
The HERTEL 2386209 is used in screw machine shops, production machining cells, and maintenance repair operations where a shorter, stiffer bit is needed to minimize deflection. The stubby screw machine length geometry provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it a preferred choice for high-speed CNC drilling, turret lathes, and automatic screw machines. It is appropriate for drilling through mild steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, and similar materials at standard production feeds and speeds.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement drill bit suitable for wire size 13 applications falling within the 0.150 to 0.200 inch decimal range, compatible with standard straight-cylindrical shank tool holders and drill chucks accepting a 0.185-inch shank.
Installation is performed by machinists and maintenance mechanics using a standard drill chuck or collet holder that accepts a straight-cylindrical shank. Secure the shank fully and verify runout before beginning a production run. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting bits. Do not exceed the recommended speeds and feeds for the workpiece material and bit diameter to avoid premature dulling or breakage.
