The HERTEL 2385912 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting in metal fabrication, maintenance, and production drilling applications. Built from heavy-duty high-speed steel with an oxide coating, it measures 15/64 inch (0.2344 inch decimal) in diameter with a 2-7/16 inch overall length. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements compared to a standard 118-degree point. The web-thinned, parallel-web construction further reduces cutting resistance. This bit is well suited for machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians who need a compact, rigid drill bit for close-tolerance work in confined spaces.
Screw machine length drill bits are shorter and more rigid than jobber-length bits, making them the preferred choice for drill press work, CNC machining centers, and hand-drilling in tight quarters. The 15/64 inch diameter falls within the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch size range and is commonly used for bolt clearance holes, tapping prep, and general-purpose metal drilling in both shop and field settings. The right-hand spiral flute evacuates chips efficiently during drilling. The straight-cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw chucks without the need for adapters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute for screw machine length drill bits in the 0.2000 to 0.2500 inch decimal diameter range. Fits any drill press, CNC machining center, or handheld drill with a three-jaw chuck capable of accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 15/64 inch diameter class.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist, millwright, or maintenance technician familiar with proper drilling procedures. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before beginning a cut. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing bits. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed ratings for the workpiece material, and use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling ferrous metals to extend tool life.
