The HERTEL 2290740 is a high-speed steel (HSS) chucking reamer designed to finish-ream drilled or bored holes to precise tolerances. With a 1.2500-inch diameter, a 3-inch straight flute length, and a 10-flute configuration, this tool delivers smooth, accurate bore finishes in a single pass. The straight-cylindrical shank mounts directly in a drill chuck or collet chuck on a lathe, drill press, or machining center. The bright, uncoated HSS construction provides adequate hardness for general-purpose reaming in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Machinists and toolroom operators rely on this style of reamer for production and maintenance applications where hole roundness and surface finish are critical.
This chucking reamer is suited for machine-fed reaming operations in metalworking environments, including job shops, maintenance repair operations, and production floors. The right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional machine spindles. The 11.5-inch overall length provides reach for deeper setups while keeping the 3-inch flute length focused on controlled material removal. It is not configured as a dowel pin reamer or an over/under size reamer, making it appropriate for standard nominal-diameter finish reaming.
Designed for use in lathes, drill presses, and machining centers equipped with a chuck or collet capable of holding a straight-cylindrical shank reamer at 1.25 inches nominal diameter.
This reamer is a machine-fed tool and should not be hand-turned under power. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before securing the shank in the chuck or collet. Ensure the workpiece is rigidly fixtured to prevent chatter, which can degrade hole finish and accelerate tool wear. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and verify spindle speed and feed rate are within the tool manufacturer recommendations for HSS reamers before beginning the cut.
