The HERTEL 2290500 is a high-speed steel (HSS) chucking reamer designed to finish-ream drilled or bored holes to precise tolerances. It features a straight-cylindrical shank for secure chuck mounting and 8 straight flutes with a right-hand cutting direction, producing a bright, uncoated finish on the cutting edges. The nominal diameter is 25/32 inches (0.7812 inches decimal), the overall length is 9-1/2 inches, and the flute length is 2-1/2 inches. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this reamer on manual mills, drill presses, and CNC lathes where a tight, smooth bore finish is required.
This reamer is suited for production and maintenance machining applications where hole diameter accuracy in the 0.7000 to 0.9999 inch range is needed. It is appropriate for ferrous and non-ferrous materials where HSS tooling is acceptable. The straight flute geometry makes it well-suited for through-holes and short blind-hole reaming. It is not configured as a dowel pin reamer or an over/under size reamer, making it a standard-tolerance finish reamer for general shop use.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in drill presses, manual mills, and lathes equipped with a drill chuck or collet capable of holding a straight-cylindrical shank in the 25/32 inch diameter range.
Chucking reamers are installed and serviced by machinists and tool-and-die technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or removing the reamer from the chuck or collet. The reamer should be run at reduced RPM compared to drilling — typically one-third to one-half the drilling speed for the same material — and with consistent feed pressure to avoid bell-mouthing the hole. Do not reverse spindle rotation while the reamer is engaged in the workpiece, as this will damage the cutting edges.
