The HERTEL 2290179 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed to bring drilled or bored holes to a precise finished diameter. Ground from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright uncoated finish, this reamer measures 0.2656 inches in diameter (17/64 inch nominal) and runs 6 inches overall in length with a 1-1/2 inch flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in a drill press, lathe, or CNC turret chuck. Six right-hand cutting flutes distribute the cutting load evenly, producing consistent surface finish and holding close tolerances on through and blind holes in ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users.
This chucking reamer is suited for machine reaming operations in job shops, production machining cells, and maintenance repair environments. Typical applications include finishing holes in steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, and similar machinable materials where a drilled hole must be brought to a close-tolerance fit for pins, bushings, or fasteners. The 0.2656 inch cutting diameter targets the 0.2500 to 0.2999 inch diameter range. The straight flute geometry is well suited to through-hole reaming and materials that produce short, broken chips.
Designed as a machine chucking reamer for use in drill presses, lathes, and CNC turning or machining centers equipped with standard chuck or collet toolholding that accepts a straight-cylindrical shank.
Reaming is performed by a machinist or CNC operator — ensure the spindle and workpiece are fully secured before operation. Power down the machine and lock out the spindle before changing or inspecting the tool. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve hole finish. Do not use a chucking reamer to remove more material than the recommended stock allowance for the diameter class; pre-drill or bore the hole to within the proper allowance before reaming.
