The HERTEL 16705014 is a solid carbide screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built to wire size 16 with a decimal diameter of 0.1770 inches, it features a 135-degree split-point angle that reduces walking and allows drilling to begin without a center punch. The two-flute slow spiral geometry promotes chip clearance in deep holes while maintaining rigidity in short-length applications. At 2-3/16 inches overall length, this stub-length drill is well suited for drilling in constrained spaces or on CNC machining centers where stickout must be minimized. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary installers.
This drill bit is rated for use in cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel. The bright uncoated finish makes it suitable for applications where coating compatibility with cutting fluids or workpiece material is a concern. Screw machine length drills are commonly used on turret lathes, CNC machining centers, and drill presses where a rigid, short-flute tool is preferred for tight-tolerance hole production. The straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collets without modification.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement screw machine length drill bit for use in standard drill chucks and collets accepting straight cylindrical shanks in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch decimal inch size range.
Installation of this drill bit should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the straight shank fully and evenly in the chuck or collet to prevent runout. Do not exceed the spindle speed and feed rate limits recommended by the machine manufacturer for the workpiece material being drilled.
