The HERTEL 16691925 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for demanding metal-cutting applications in production and maintenance environments. Built from solid carbide grade C2 and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life in hard and abrasive workpiece materials. The 135-degree split point with web thinning reduces thrust, improves centering, and eliminates the need for a center punch on most surfaces. At 3-5/16 inches overall length with a 1-15/16 inch flute length, the screw machine geometry keeps the tool compact and rigid for close-tolerance drilling in drill presses, CNC machines, and production fixtures. Machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary users.
This drill bit is suited for drilling cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel. The slow spiral flute geometry is optimized for these hard and work-hardening materials, controlling chip evacuation and reducing heat buildup at the cutting edge. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks and collet holders without modification. It is a strong fit for short-hole production drilling, spot facing prep, and maintenance-shop metal work where a rigid, short-body drill is preferred over jobber-length tooling.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement drill bit for use in standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.4000 to 0.4500 inch diameter range. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel.
Installation is performed by machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with cutting tool setup on drill presses, mills, or CNC machining centers. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before beginning any cut and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling. Do not use this bit on wood, plastics, or soft non-ferrous materials for which it is not designed, as slow spiral geometry will not clear chips effectively in those materials.
