The HERTEL 16691644 is a straight-flute carbide drill bit sized at wire gauge 60 (0.0400 inches diameter), built for precision drilling in tough ferrous and exotic alloy materials. The bit features a 140-degree notched point and a web-thinned geometry that reduces entry force and improves chip evacuation in difficult-to-machine workpiece materials. With an overall length of 1.5 inches and a flute length of 0.5 inches, this is a compact, short-geometry bit suited for close-quarters drilling operations. The bright uncoated finish and C2 carbide grade make it well matched to applications where lubricity coatings are not required. Machinists, tool and die professionals, and precision fabricators are the primary users of this bit.
This drill bit is designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld precision drilling equipment where small-diameter hole production in hard materials is required. Primary workpiece materials include chrome alloy, heat-treated alloy, nickel alloy, stainless steel, steel, and titanium alloy. The right-hand cutting direction and two-flute straight configuration make it appropriate for both through-hole and blind-hole drilling within its maximum drilling depth of 1.5 inches. It is sold individually and is part of the Hertel Series 470 straight-flute drill line.
Designed as a Series 470 straight-flute carbide drill bit for use in precision machining applications involving chrome alloy, heat-treated alloy, nickel alloy, stainless steel, steel, and titanium alloy workpieces.
This bit should be installed by qualified machinists or tooling professionals familiar with small-diameter carbide tooling. Secure the bit firmly in a compatible collet or drill chuck rated for the 0.0400-inch shank diameter before operation. Carbide tooling is brittle and can fracture if subjected to side loading or improper runout — verify chuck and spindle concentricity before use. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain hole quality.
