The HERTEL 06822050 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life in demanding cutting applications. The cutter measures 1 inch in diameter with a 2-inch length of cut and a 4.5-inch overall length. Five flutes provide efficient chip evacuation while maintaining cutting stability. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction make this a standard configuration for most vertical and horizontal milling setups. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this type of end mill in manual mills and CNC machining centers.
This roughing end mill is suited for ferrous and high-temperature alloy applications where standard HSS tooling lacks sufficient hardness or heat resistance. The M42 cobalt grade handles interrupted cuts and harder workpiece materials. The TiN coating reduces friction and improves wear resistance, extending intervals between tool changes. With a 1-inch shank diameter matching the cutting diameter, this tool fits directly into standard 1-inch end mill holders or collet chucks without reducers. Regular length classification makes it appropriate for general-purpose roughing passes where extended reach is not required.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard 1-inch roughing end mill applications using ER or end mill holders with 1-inch bore capacity. No specific OEM compatibility was provided in the product data.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder and torque the retention mechanism according to the holder manufacturer specifications. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning a roughing pass, as excessive runout will accelerate tool wear and reduce surface finish quality.
