The HERTEL 04141206 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating and a 135-degree split point. It is designed for heavy-duty holemaking in ferrous and hard materials where standard high-speed steel bits wear prematurely. The bit measures 29/64 inch (0.4531 inch decimal) in diameter with an overall length of 5-5/8 inches and a flute length of 4-3/16 inches. The split point geometry reduces walking at startup, and the web-thinned, tapered web construction lowers feed force requirements. Machinists, tool and die shops, and industrial maintenance technicians use this bit in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and heavy-duty hand drills.
This drill bit is suited for production and maintenance applications where hard or work-hardened materials are encountered, including alloy steels, stainless steel, and cast iron. Its straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks without adapters. The jobber-length series provides a practical balance between reach and rigidity for general holemaking tasks. The TiN coating extends cutting life by reducing friction and heat buildup at the cutting edge, making it appropriate for repetitive drilling cycles in shop environments.
Designed as a jobber-series replacement drill bit for use in any standard drill chuck accepting a 29/64 inch straight-cylindrical shank, including drill presses, lathes, and hand-held power drills.
This bit is installed by a machinist or maintenance technician and secured in a keyed or keyless drill chuck. Ensure the workpiece is properly clamped or fixtured before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the material being drilled to preserve coating life, noting this bit does not support coolant-through delivery. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace when performance degrades to avoid workpiece damage.
