The HERTEL 04138673 is a cobalt jobber-length drill bit sized to No. 20 wire gauge (0.1610 inch decimal), designed for heavy-duty holemaking in ferrous and hard materials. The 135-degree split point starts on contact without a center punch and reduces walking on curved or angled surfaces. An oxide and TiN coating extends cutting life by reducing friction and heat buildup at the cutting edge. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard three-jaw chucks used across machine shops, fabrication floors, and maintenance operations. Overall length is 3.25 inches with a 2.125-inch flute length.
This bit is suited for production drilling and maintenance repair work where a No. 20 wire-size hole is required. The regular spiral flute promotes chip evacuation in blind and through-hole applications. The web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust requirements on harder stock. No coolant-through feature is present, so conventional cutting fluid application at the surface is appropriate for extended runs in steel or stainless. Electricians, pipefitters, millwrights, and general maintenance technicians commonly reach for a bit in this size range for pilot holes, clearance holes, and conduit work.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit compatible with any three-jaw chuck or drill press accepting a 0.1610-inch straight-cylindrical shank across the No. 20 wire-size application range of 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch decimal.
Install and remove this bit only when the drill press, hand drill, or milling spindle is fully powered down and at a complete stop. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck before operation to prevent slippage and runout. Apply appropriate cutting fluid at the work surface when drilling steel or stainless to extend bit life and manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use; a damaged split point will affect hole quality and increase thrust load.
