The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 86963 is a 3-flute solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling of aluminum and non-ferrous materials. With a 0.1875 inch (3/16 inch) mill diameter and a 1.1875 inch length of cut, this tool delivers aggressive material removal while maintaining edge integrity in soft, gummy, and thermally conductive alloys. The Zplus ZrN coating reduces built-up edge and improves chip evacuation in aluminum applications. A 40-degree helix angle combined with a variable pitch (variable index) flute geometry reduces harmonic chatter, making it well suited for dynamic and high-speed milling strategies. Machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops, aerospace component machining, and general fabrication will find this tool fits demanding finishing and roughing passes alike.
This end mill is intended for use on CNC machining centers and manual mills cutting aluminum, brass, copper, and other non-ferrous materials. The single-end, right-hand cutting and right-hand helical flute configuration is compatible with conventional climb milling setups. The straight shank diameter matches the 0.1875 inch mill diameter, allowing use in standard ER collet chucks and end mill holders without a step-down adapter. It is not rated for ferrous or hardened materials and is not recommended for coolant-through applications.
Designed for milling aluminum and non-ferrous materials (Primary Workpiece Material Code: N). Part of the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Aluminum series, 3 Flute Square 40 degree Helix Variable Pitch. Fits any tool holder accepting a 0.1875 inch straight shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Secure the straight shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder and torque the retention mechanism per the tool holder manufacturer specification. Verify spindle runout before cutting, as excess runout on small-diameter carbide tools accelerates breakage. Do not use this tool on ferrous metals or hardened materials, as the ZrN coating and flute geometry are optimized for non-ferrous applications only.
