The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 84490 is a 5-flute, solid carbide high-feed end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built on a variable-pitch, chipbreaker rougher geometry, it reduces chatter and improves chip evacuation during high-efficiency milling (HEM) and combination feed toolpaths. The 0.25-inch mill diameter and 0.0314-inch program radius allow it to run at the elevated feed rates and shallow axial depths of cut that define high-feed milling strategies. The Tplus coating enhances wear resistance and extends tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. At 2.5 inches of overall length with a 0.5-inch length of cut, this is a compact, rigid tool suited for roughing passes in tight setups.
This end mill is used in CNC machining centers for roughing and semi-finishing operations where high material removal rates are the priority. The chipbreaker geometry along the flute length breaks chips into shorter segments, reducing cutting forces and heat buildup. It is particularly well suited for pocketing, profiling, and high-efficiency milling toolpaths in production and job-shop environments. Machinists and CNC programmers working with the 1/4-inch shank diameter will find this tool compatible with standard ER collets and side-lock holders common in vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed as an OEM-style high-feed end mill for use in CNC machining applications requiring a 1/4-inch shank diameter toolholder and high-efficiency milling or combination feed toolpaths.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Seat the shank to the full recommended engagement depth in the collet or holder to maintain concentricity and prevent pullout under high feed forces. Verify program radius and toolpath offsets in the CAM file match the 0.0314-inch program radius before running the first pass.
