The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 83684 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill engineered for high-performance material removal in aluminum and non-ferrous metals. It features a 1/2 inch diameter, a 2 inch length of cut, and a 1/8 inch (0.1250 inch) corner radius that reduces stress concentrations at the cutting edge and extends tool life. The 45-degree high helix geometry promotes aggressive chip evacuation, which is critical when machining soft, gummy materials like aluminum. A Zplus PVD coating provides lubricity and surface protection. This tool is single-end, centercutting, and right-hand cutting with a right-hand flute direction, making it suitable for both roughing and finishing operations on CNC machining centers.
The 83684 is designed for Series H45AL-3 applications targeting aluminum and non-ferrous metals as primary workpiece materials. Secondary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials. The long-length configuration with a 4 inch overall length and straight cylindrical 1/2 inch shank suits setups requiring extended reach into deep pockets or slots. It is intended for use with high-precision toolholders to maintain TIR within specification. This tool is commonly run by CNC machinists and tool-and-die shops on vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed for use in Series H45AL-3 end mill applications. Primary material compatibility is aluminum and non-ferrous metals. Secondary compatibility includes steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials. Requires a high-precision toolholder with a 1/2 inch bore.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Secure the straight cylindrical shank in a high-precision collet or hydraulic toolholder to maintain TIR within the 0.0003 inch maximum. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the tool. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing cuts, and confirm cutting parameters are appropriate for the workpiece material and machine capability.
