The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 82866 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in steel, cast iron, stainless steel, and superalloy applications. Built to the HXVR series specification, it features a 0.5 inch mill diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 0.0400 inch corner radius tolerance held to -0.0020 to 0.0020 inches. The 5-flute, variable-pitch geometry reduces harmonic chatter during aggressive cuts, while the APLUS PVD coating extends tool life in abrasive ferrous materials. A single-end, centercutting design allows plunge entry as well as standard peripheral and slot milling. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this end mill in CNC machining centers requiring tight tolerances and consistent surface finish.
The 82866 is suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations in low-alloy steel, medium alloy steel, tool steel, and cast iron as its primary workpiece materials. Secondary applications include stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium-based materials. The straight cylindrical shank at 0.5 inch diameter is compatible with high-precision toolholders. Its right-hand cutting direction and right-hand flute spiral are standard for CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. The 3 inch overall length provides reach for pocketing and contouring work without excessive overhang.
Designed for use with high-precision toolholders in CNC machining centers. Primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron (ISO material codes P and K). Secondary materials include stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, and superalloys including titanium (ISO codes M, N, and S).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool path program is verified before engaging the cut. Seat the shank fully into the toolholder to the minimum recommended insertion depth to avoid deflection. Do not exceed the end mill's rated length of cut when programming axial depth of cut values.
