The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 82474 is a 3-flute solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance aluminum milling applications. With a 1/4 inch cutting diameter and a 40-degree helix angle, it promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces built-up edge common in non-ferrous materials. The variable pitch (variable index) flute geometry helps dampen chatter during aggressive cuts. Zplus coating provides lubricity and heat resistance suited to aluminum alloys. Overall length is 3 inches with a 3/8 inch length of cut and a reduced neck that extends reach to 1.375 inches. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job shop environments are the primary users of this tool.
This end mill is designed for cutting aluminum and other non-ferrous materials where chip clearance and surface finish are critical. The reduced neck design allows access to deeper pockets and stepped features without sacrificing rigidity at the cutting zone. Single-end geometry means the tool is replaced rather than reversed when the cutting edge is worn. The straight cylindrical 1/4 inch shank seats in standard ER collets, end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling. It is suited for high-speed machining centers and capable VMCs running aluminum at elevated feed and speed parameters.
Part of the Helical Solutions End Mills for Aluminum series — 3 Flute, Square, 40 degree Helix, Variable Pitch, Reduced Neck. Designed for use in standard 1/4 inch ER collets, end mill holders, and shrink-fit toolholders on CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool changer or manual holder is safely locked out before inserting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully to the specified gauge line in the holder and torque the collet nut to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chips or wear before each use, as a damaged end mill can cause tool pull-out or workpiece damage.
