The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81707 is a 5-flute, solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in steel and ferrous materials. It features a 3/16 inch cutting diameter, a 1 inch length of cut, and a 2.5 inch overall length with a matching 3/16 inch straight cylindrical shank. The variable pitch (variable index) flute geometry reduces harmonic vibration during cuts, improving surface finish and tool life. The Aplus coating adds wear resistance and heat tolerance, making this end mill well suited for demanding steel milling applications. Installed and operated by machinists and toolroom professionals, this single-end tool runs right-hand cutting with right-hand flute direction.
This end mill is built for milling steel and similar ferrous alloys in both production and toolroom environments. The 5-flute configuration increases chip load capacity per tooth while the variable pitch design helps suppress chatter in side milling, slotting, and finishing passes. The centercutting capability allows plunge entry directly into material. At 2.5 inches overall length with no extended reach, it is suited for short-overhang setups where rigidity and precision are critical. Typical applications include finish milling, contour milling, and profiling on CNC machining centers and manual mills.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for CNC machining centers and manual milling machines accepting a 3/16 inch straight cylindrical shank, within the HELICAL SOLUTIONS End Mills for Steels 5 Flute Square Variable Pitch series.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists using an appropriate collet or end mill holder rated for the 3/16 inch shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Verify runout with a dial indicator after tool installation to confirm proper seating. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety standards for speeds, feeds, and workholding before initiating a cut.
