The HELICAL SOLUTIONS 81614 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance material removal in aluminum and non-ferrous metals, with secondary capability in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials. It carries a 1/2 inch mill diameter, a 0.0300 inch corner radius, and three right-hand spiral flutes with a 45-degree high helix angle. The Zplus PVD coating extends tool life in demanding cutting applications. At 3 inches overall length with a 1-1/4 inch length of cut, this single-end, center-cutting tool handles both roughing and finishing passes in one setup.
This end mill is built for machinists and toolroom operators running CNC mills or machining centers where tight tolerances and surface finish on aluminum or non-ferrous workpieces are the priority. The coarse pitch geometry and high helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation in aluminum, reducing built-up edge and heat at the cutting zone. It is also rated for secondary use on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials, making it a versatile choice across mixed-material job shops. The Series H45AL-3 designation identifies it within the HELICAL SOLUTIONS aluminum-optimized end mill line.
Designed for use with high-precision toolholders on CNC machining centers. Primary workpiece material is aluminum and non-ferrous metals; secondary workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hard materials. Mill diameter and shank diameter tolerances are both h6.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank in a high-precision collet or toolholder rated for the required runout tolerance; excessive TIR will shorten tool life and degrade surface finish. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool path is programmed before engaging the workpiece. Follow the tooling manufacturer recommended speeds and feeds for the specific workpiece material and depth of cut.
